If some of you have noticed in my recent photo comment's, for the first time ever I am no longer using a point-and-shoot! I've recently bought a Nikon D5000
!
I'm really excited to learn all the in and outs of a DSLR. Before this, all of my photos have been taken using a Canon point-and-shoot. The most recent photos from Switzerland and the couple I took using a borrowed Canon DSLR can show you the difference, especially in megapixels.
Yet, I believe using a point-and-shoot doesn't necessarily mean you can't take good photos. All of the photos I've taken aside from the most recent are all with a point-and-shoot, including some of the photos I feel I am most proud of, Prosper, Semplicita, Azure, etc. Some people have been very surprised when I've told them this. I think it should not only be the camera, but also the person behind it who does a lot of the work. I truly believe when just beginning photography, like me at 13 years old, all one really should have IS a point-and-shoot. I feel like a DSLR is something that needs to be worked up to. It's always been an irk of mine to see absolute beginners automatically get an expensive DSLR, but that's only my opinion.
It's been 4 years since I first picked up that point-and-shoot, now I feel like I'm up to the challenge of mastering a DSLR. Now 17, I hope with my new Nikon D5000 I will transcend to another level of photography, and continue to improve. This is my one wish.
